Kona, Hawaii , USA
This is a picture that my husband took when we were on vacation on the big island of Hawaii in 2009. They're tiki statues located at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge) National Park in Kona, Hawaii.
The tradition of the native Hawaiians was if you broke taboo, you could swim across the bay & seek sanctuary in the temple located at the site. Hawaiian royalty also lived here.

Desert Highway Postcard from Zazzle.com
Along US Interstate 40, about 1 to 2 hours west of Williams, AZ, we were on a typical desert highway. I stopped to take this photo.
If you notice carefully, I was not in the middle of the highway, as there were cars and trucks speeding by at 75 mph (120 kph). I stopped the car, set up the shot, and then quickly got back in.
Two words of advice: be very careful in setting up a safe location for a photo and burn a disk of Western-themed music (my favorite: the theme from The Magnificent Seven) for listening to music while you drive.
You'll swear you'll be seeing John Wayne galloping in the distance!

Nebraska , USA
Nebraska
In the Butte country there's a marker along the highway on the way to Fort Robinson. It describes Indian wars among the Sioux and the Crow..none were seen this day. Just the lazy rounds of hay waiting for someone to pick them up. Nebraska is a great touring state. Lot's of history, good folks and fun times can be had in Nebraska.

Trenton, New Jersey
This is another state capitol building, located in New Jersey's Trenton. Here is where the legislature meets (one wag referred to it as "the scene of the crime", alluding to the publicized corruption uncovered there). Yes, the dome is gold-leafed.
Other attractions in Trenton are the Barracks (site of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Trenton), the War Memorial theater, and the "Trenton Makes" bridge that spans the Delaware River.

Pt. Defiance Ferry
Pt. Defiance Ferry Postcard from Zazzle.com
The Point Defiance ferryboat leaves from Tacoma, WA and travels a short 10 or 15 minutes to Tahlequah at the southern tip of Vashon Island. From there you can drive the length of the island and take another ferry to Seattle or to the Olympic Peninsula, where more ferries will carry you to many other parts of Puget Sound. It's a great way to travel! One time I had my birthday party (yes, I'm a grown-up) on this boat. We did have to ride back and forth a few times, but it was lots of fun.

Levant, Maine
If you would like to pick apples in Maine in the fall, its worth the trip to go to Treworgy Family Orchards in Levant, Maine. We went in Oct. 2010 and the kids had a blast. In addition to the apple orchards, they have a small petting zoo, a pumpkin patch, snack bar, and a fun corn maze which is their main autumn attraction.

Providence, Rhode Island, USA
The smallest state Rhode Island has a rather large state capitol building. Located in Providence, it boasts of beautiful statues and the fourth-largest free-standing marble domes in the world (the others are St. Paul's Basilica, the Minnesota State Capitol, and the Taj Mahal).
The building was designed and constructed from 1895 to 1904 and used 327,000 cubic feet (9,300 m3) of white Georgia marble. On top of the dome is the 11 foot (3.4m) statue called "The Independent Man". You can easily see this building from I-95 and is very close to the Providence Mall.

Balinghai, Philippines
Balinghai Beach, on the island Boracay in the Philippines.
A pristine white beach in a secluded bay on the island Boracay. While the other beaches on the island can get crowded, this one is usually quiet. The secluded bay is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. A small resort and restaurant on the top of a cliff can take care of your lunch, or serve drinks and snacks on the beach.

Barnegat Light, New Jersey, USA
The Barnegat Lighthouse, located at Barnegat Light, NJ, is one of the most famous of the New Jersey landmarks. It was designed by Lt. George Meade, who later was defeated Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg (at the base of the lighthouse is a bust of Meade).
The lighthouse is still in use, and is an important navigation feature at the entrance to Barnegat Bay.

Bonn, Germany
This photo was taken in Bonn, Germany. I saw the YELLOW air balloon flying towards the DHL headquarters with the YELLOW logo, and at the same time a riverboat (with a YELLOW something on it) approaching on the Rhine river.
It took a lot of patience and running left, right, front and backwards to get them all three at the right spot. But I did. Smile

Provence , France
Provence in southern France isn't always warm and sunny, this was a misty drizzly morning in spring. The plane trees with their attractive patterned bark lining the road edge are typical of many regions of France, and give welcome shade in the hot summers. Too early for the lavender fields to be in bloom, but worth a visit at any time of the year.

San Francisco wild parrot
San Francisco wild parrot Post Card from Zazzle.com
I was lucky enough to get up close and personal with the famous “Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill” when they used to hang out in a small one block square park where people used to go to feed them before the feedings were banned a couple of years ago for their own protection.
They had become so tame, people were trying to walk off with them. For that reason, I can’t divulge exactly where this photo was taken but you can see how close the high rise building is in the background.
I have several photos of them but since they no longer hang out in the park, I've been unable to get more as they fly all over the city and no longer keep their afternoon feeding appointment at the park like they used to.

Plan on making a day of it, when you hike the 6 mile hike to Lighthouse Rock. The scenery makes it all worthwhile, & the rush you'll have after climbing almost to the top, will long be remembered. Trails are everywhere in this park, and you'll likely find one to suit you, whether you're looking for an easy, pleasant walk, or a more challenging hike. Fees to enter the park are 5.00 per person.

Helsinki, Finland
I took this walking under the railroad tracks in Helsinki suburbs. The conctrete elements reminded me of a dinosaur. It also reminded me how closely our architechture is related to the slavik design sense: monolithic concrete structures right in the middle of the woods.

The bright colors of the Ferris Wheel and the roller coaster, stand out against the blue of the ocean and sky at Pacific Park on the pier at Santa Monica, Ca. The beautiful city can be seen in the distance.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota
Badlands National Park, South Dakota
The Badlands, home of the Lakota & Dakota became a National Park in 1939. The sedimentary deposits that make up the landscape creates muted hues of colors. Each layer of deposits dates the rock ranging back to 80 million years ago. Also inside the part is untouched prairie land. This area is one of my personal favorites.

San Juan, Puerto Rico
In Old San Juan lies the Fort El Morro, one of the most popular tourist attractions of Puerto Rico. This fort was built during the 16th century and incorporates the standard Spanish architecture of its time.
The sentry box in the upper right is an iconic symbol of the island, and can be found on license plates and other souvenirs.

Alberta, Canada
Along the Icefield Parkway in Alberta, the Canadian Rocky Mountains provide a stunning scenic view. This is Mt. Murcheson, which is showing the many layers of sedimentary rocks it is made of.
After this photo was taken, the camera, tripod, and accessories were rushed into our car after I spotted a very large black bear crossing the highway behind us!
