New York

Aspens in Autumn
Autumn in upstate New York is a magical time. The woods are a palette of brilliant colors. In this lovely scene, white aspen trunks stand out dramatically in front of a forest full of marvellous autumn tints of yellow, orange, red and green. Come visit and wander in this lovely place.

Pittsfield, MA

The sun rests on a low, silhouetted mountain range in Pittsfield, MA. The sky transitions from yellow to orange to blue. Onota Lake fills the bottom half of the photograph. Ripples cover its surface and break up the golden reflection of the sunset.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany

A photo of a cobbled street at dusk in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany, with the last rays of sunshine and the alps in the background. It had been raining all day, so the sun was a bit weak and watery, but gave a lovely light to the pastel coloured buildings with the brooding mountains behind.
Many people know the name from televised winter sports, but the old town is worth a visit at any time of the year. Many houses are decorated with extravagant murals and window boxes full of flowers. A very pretty town.

Autumn Barn and Hills

This is a postcard of a picturesque red and white barn with rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Gorgeous autumn colors of red, yellow, orange, gold and green are in the foreground and paint the surrounding hillsides. I took this photo in Danby, New York in the hill country just south of the Finger Lakes Region of New York State.

Fall in the Sierra foothills,San Joaquin Valley, Ca.

Fall colors made more vivid after a hard rain in the foothills. This is a beautiful time to visit when the weather is cooler & the colors are beautiful. This was taken near Lindsay, Ca. (our home for many yrs).Just a sort drive away are the Sequioa National Redwoods, which has the General Sherman tree; one of the largest, I believe. Up there you'll find a restaurant, gift shop, campgrounds & Moro Rock & Crystal cave. Also not far is Camp Nelson, with camping & lots of summer activities.

Florida USA

This is a typical scene in Florida in the winter on the beach-rustling sea oats against a pastel sunset sky. A lone lifeguard shack adds a point of interest to this Florida scene. When you are tired of snow pictures, gaze on a lazy Florida dune and imagine yourself here! Taken in Fort Pierce, Florida on the South Jetty Beach, east coast of Florida. A mere two hours from theme parks and all sorts of other bustling vacation spots-but only a few minutes away from a beach. Forget the snowsuits and come on down!

Moriarty, New Mexico

I took this photo about 3 weeks into what would become a 7 month long cross country road trip. When I was looking for something to do between Moriarty, New Mexico and Las Vegas, Nevada; my brother suggested Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook, Arizona. The park was absolutely amazing. I would love to go back and spend more time there.

For this photograph of a cross section of a petrified log, I increased the contrast and reduced the brightness of the scan a bit to darken the shadows in the upper left and lower right for the graphic look I wanted.

Boracay, Philippines

This picture was taken on the beautiful White Beach in Boracay, Philippines, at sunset on Christmas Eve 2009. Clear, tranquil waters, perfect white sands and a warm sun made it a place I will always remember. Every morning I would swim out in the shallow reefs with my swim goggles, watching the colourful marine life below the water as I floated in the warmth above. At sunset would come a rich display of golds and oranges, and the sailboats that had spent the day giving rides to tourists would begin to turn their boats to go home.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany

A photo of an ornate inn sign at night in the old town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. These scrollwork signs are typical of this part of Europe. Being at the foot of the Alps this is a well-known ski-resort, and a beautiful place in summer with it's painted medieval houses and cobbled streets.

I took this photo while sitting outside drinking the lovely wheat beer that's brewed from Belgium down to Austria and listening to the faint sounds of traditional music being played inside.

The night at Garmisch-Partenkirchen was an unscheduled stop, only because our car had an unfixable puncture, but it was well worth a visit so every cloud has a silver lining!

upstate New York

Barn in Winter
The sky is blue and the snowy field is white. A cold winter light illuminates the reds, blues and yellows of the barn and silos in this artistic rendering of a farm in winter. These hilltop barns are very common throughout upstate New York. This one is in the hills just south of the Finger Lakes.

Puy-de-Dôme - Clermont Ferrand - France

This view of a paraglider was taken from the top of Puy-de-Dôme, a high spot in the volcanic region of the Auvergne, France. You can see the city of Clermont Ferrand in the background. The 360° views from the peak give wonderful views of extinct craters, and as far as Mont Blanc on clear days. This is not a place to visit in the middle of winter as it will be covered with snow, so time to plan those summer holidays! For the historically minded, there are also the remains of a Roman temple on the summit, and for the less fit, it is accessible by road all the way to the top.

Arches National Park near Moab, Utah

Sandstone Fins postcard

It's a hot August day in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. What I love about Arches, and the Southwest in general, is how foreign much of the terrain looks compared to the green rolling mountains to which I'm accustomed. The light is severe, the rock structures alien, and often you can see uninterrupted sky.

In this photograph, however, five immense rock fins rise up from the ground to create a staggered horizon. Beyond and above the tall, thin Entrada Sandstone formations, cotton ball clouds dot the blue sky almost like white smoke signals.

Elk Grove, Illinois

I shot this photo of some elk enjoying a beautiful summer afternoon at Busse Woods Forest Preserve in Elk Grove, Illinois. The elk are fenced off in the forest preserve in the middle of an 11.2 bicycle/walking trail. You can see other wildlife outside of the fence such as deer, birds and squirrels. The preserve also has a wonderful 590 acre lake to go fishing in.

Willow at Cayuga Lake

Willow at Cayuga Lake
An old willow tree has fallen into the water but still lives. It is early spring and the tender green leaves have just awakened. This photo was taken in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Stewart Park is at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca. The lake is rimmed with these lovely willows.

Yosemite Falls

A beautiful photograph of Yosemite Falls in late afternoon. The beauty of Northern California Yosemite National Park is not to be missed. In May the waterfalls are so full and so many there are falls not even named. We arrived in the rain which cleared up to leave us with an amazing wet and green valley. Yosemite Falls will leave you awestruck at the beauty and wonder of nature.

Conques, France

The medieval town of Conques is a world heritage site in the Midi-Pyrenées region of France. The abbey dates from the 9th century and is part of the ancient pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. The village sits on the slopes of a wooded gorge next to a tributary of the river Lot. This photo was taken in the early morning as the mist was just lifting.

Beautiful beach in maldives
Post card of the beautiful sandy beach with clear transparent water in maldives. It showcase a restaurant with tables and chairs in a water bay platform in a island resort. Background is filled with green trees and a blue sunny sky. Perfect photo to illustrate a beach vacation mood. The water is very clear and transparent and you can even see the fishes without diving. Taken during my honeymoon trip in May 2010.

Dutch Harbor, Alaska

APL Crane in Dutch Harbor, Alaska

The crane shown in this picture is about 10 stories tall and it is used to move container vans to and from the ships and 18 wheeler trucks on the docks. This crane was brought in by barge in early August of 2010 to replace the original crane, which was blown over in a violent windstorm on Unalaska Island in December of 2009. In the foreground are blossoms of annual fireweed, which grows about three feet tall. Behind the crane, in the distance, stands Ballyhoo Mountain, but only Ulakta Head, which is at the north end of the mountain, is visible. Ulakta Head was the location for Fort Swatzka during the Campaign of the Aleutians in WWII. The switchback road which is visible on the mountainside goes to the fort and was built by the military for that purpose. Some of the cement bunkers built during the war still remain in the area of the fort.

Hilltop at Sunset
This postcard features a magical play of light and color on a hilltop at sunset in upstate New York, just south of the Finger Lakes. It had been raining all day. The sky began to clear just as the sun was setting. The foreground begins with a hint of green, then a layer of golden weeds, and then a field of ripening corn ending in a hedgerow of trees. Distant hills in the mist can be seen beyond the field. The partly cloudy sky creates a glorious pattern of pink, gold, yellow, orange, mauve, blue and white.

Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco, California

The Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco, California is a structure full of intriguing angles. This low angle shot, looking up through the support legs at the base of the pyramid, is canted so that the photo becomes an abstraction of the architecture. The pyramid leg in the upper left corner appears as a near black triangle. In the lower left corner, a building across the street helps frame the column of sky spanning across the photo's center to the upper right. An amorphous white cloud provides contrast to the sharp, dark architectural elements.

Sequoia National Park

A Mule Deer looks up from a snack in the freshly fallen snow in May at the base of a Sequoia tree in Sequoia National Park. On a nature excursion, we had stopped in a grove of sequoias to learn more about them from our guide, and a deer walked right through the middle of the giant tree to stand in front of us and graze on something in the snow. Nature at its finest.

Cayuga Lake in Winter

Cayuga Lake is the longest of central New York's glacial Finger Lakes. The city of Ithaca's Stewart Park is located at the southern end. Every winter this end of the lake freezes and becomes the stomping ground for Canada geese, gulls and mallard ducks.

This postcard features the expanded icy shore with ducks and geese, the lovely blue green water, and the colorful houses along the shoreline at the foot of the eastern hills along the lake.

Yosemite

Here is a photo postcard from Yosemite. This is of Yosemite Falls from the Valley floor. It is the tallest waterfall in North America. The path past the lower falls is one of the most popular. You will meander through the awesome forest and past a river until there it is before you. The path will take you right to the bottom of the lower falls. Late spring is of course the best time to visit! The waterfalls are flowing at their best.

The Link - Kansas City, Missouri

"The Link" is a raised glass walkway connecting Union Station (at left in the photograph) to Crown Center in Kansas City, Missouri. I was drawn to the mix of new and old architectural styles complemented by the cloud reflections on the mirror-surfaced building in the background.

Okanagan Lake and Kelowna bridge, BC, Canada

A black & white photograph postcard of the large, deep Okanagan Lake and Kelowna bridge, in BC, Canada, in the bitter cold Winter. Other cities bordering the lake include Vernon, Penticton and West Kelowna.

Many parks and beaches are found along the shores of the lake, which make boating and swimming very popular activities. The lake is home to several species of fish, including rainbow trout and kokanee. It is said by some to be home to its own sea monster - a giant serpent-like creature named Ogopogo.
