Santa Monica, California, USA

The carousel at the Santa Monica Pier in Southern California is one of my favorite rides on the boardwalk. Kids of all ages come to this amusement park and enjoy the fun. The carousel is stunning, overlooking the Pacific ocean and sunsets. The summertime is the best time to visit and have fun in the arcade, on the Ferris Wheel, rent a bicycle and take a dip in the ocean.

Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels and restaurants along its oceanfront. The boardwalk is built overlooking the ocean, and the views from many of the area hotels are simply breathtaking. In addition to a large walking path, there is also a bike path for people on bikes and skates.

It offers more than just hotels and restaurants. Here, visitors can find a wide array of museums and historic sites. There are numerous monuments and sculptures to stop and enjoy as you stroll along the boardwalk, and there are even a number of live entertainment stages that host great acts throughout the busy season. It is designed to ensure that visitors never have a dull moment.

France

One thing I love about France is the eccentricity, just the little odd items that you find. This old cast iron fire hydrant - still in use as a hydrant on the street - is fitted with a modern household tap or faucet. For watering the flowers perhaps?

Hawaii, USA

This is a picture that my husband took when we were on vacation on the big island of Hawaii in 2009. They're tiki statues located at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge) National Park in Kona, Hawaii.

The tradition of the native Hawaiians was if you broke taboo, you could swim across the bay & seek sanctuary in the temple located at the site. Hawaiian royalty also lived here.

Canal du Midi , France

The Canal du Midi near Narbonne in the south of France, lined with the plane trees that are found nearly everywhere, in autumn colours. Probably these are planted to stop water evaporation, but I like to think they are there for shade for the canal users. This canal is more for leisure craft, and boats can be hired here at Capestang, or many other places - a great way to see France - and the lock operating work is all done for you by lock keepers. Capestang is between Carcasonne and Beziers, both towns full of history and shouldn't be missed. I have happy memories of picking fresh figs from a wild tree on the bank near here.

Port St. Lucie, Florida USA

Florida is home to many different kinds of wildlife. One wild bird that has integrated right into the suburbian-next-to-forest lifestyle is the Sandhill Crane, such as the one shown here. They are commonly found walking across the road, and everyone knows to stop for them. Come to Florida for more than just theme parks! Taken in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Grand Canyon , USA

Teddy Roosevelt once said that every American should see the Grand Canyon.
He was right. This photo cannot do it justice- the breadth and grandeur is simply staggering.

This was taken from Moran Point, which is the most popular stop in the park. This was the first of my pictures taken there, about 8:30 AM. When we passed by there later, it was jammed with tourists (and photographers).

A bit of advice: get there early, around sunrise to get the best light- and enjoy the view!
