Hochkönig - Salzburg - Austria
The peak and mountains of Hochkönig, meaning "High King", in the Salzburg region of Austria. The peak is the highest in that area at 2,941 m (9,649 ft) and part of the Berchtesgaden Alps. In this photo, the top is shrouded in cloud, while on the meadows below are grazing cattle and a wooden cabin.
Although Berchtesgaden is in Germany, it's right on the border with Austria, so gives it's name to the mountains. In fact, from some viewpoints on the German side, you can see Salzburg itself and the Salzbach river. Like most of the area, it's popular with skiers in winter, and climbers and hikers in summer.
