Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto, CA
This shot was taken at dawn at the Baylands Nature Preserve in Palo Alto, CA. You can see the brilliant colors in the light of dawn, with the horizon in the background. You can go to Baylands to see a small bird sanctuary, feed some ducks, or rent a kayak. I like this location because it actually includes a small piece of the San Francisco Bay.

Winter Fence and Church
This postcard creates a classic rural winter feeling...a fenced field and the country church just over the hill. The sky is blue against the pure white snow. This photo was taken in Van Etten, New York, which is in the hills just south of the Finger Lakes Region.

Mountain View, CA
This was taken at Shoreline Park, here in Mountain View, CA. I got up early to take some sunrise shots. I passed the lake on my way to my intended setup spot and saw this tableau. The nearby pier looks very lonely indeed, as the lake is shrouded in mystery by the fog.
Shoreline Park is built on an old toxic dump site. You can find jackrabbits, as well as a wide variety of avian life here. At night you can also find raccoons and skunks if you're so inclined. The park is also located next to Shoreline Ampitheater, a popular venue for concerts.

Modern Dublin Tram, Dublin, Ireland
Luas, the Dublin street level light railway, or tram, carrying passengers on the streets of Dublin. The Irish word 'Luas' means 'speed' and these trams are noted for their lack of it. Capable of 70 km per hour, pedestrian and passenger safety is assured by a lower more sedate speed.

Lahaina Sunset
After a hard day of being tourists in Lahaina, on the island of Maui in Hawaii, we kicked back on the terrace outside our room at the Garden Gate Bed & Breakfast, and enjoyed the sunset. With our feet on the railing, and drinks in hand, we sat mesmerized by the wake of a lone catamaran skmimmimng on the golden shimering ocean waters before the island of Lanai.

Gasparilla Island, Florida
These beautiful banyan trees, forming an arch over Banyan Street in Boca Grande (on Gasparilla Island, Florida), invited me in to explore their mysteries.
They stand in rows along both sides of the street, offering shade and relief from the beach and the hot sun. The lovely curves of their trunks, in soft shades of browns and grays, form shapes that start to look like creatures believed, in Philippine Mythology, to inhabit these trees.
Banyan trees are considered sacred in Hinduism, a symbol of eternal life. It is believed that Buddha achieved enlightenment while sitting under a banyan tree.
To me they are magical, and will always be my favorite tree.

Moriarty, New Mexico
I took this photo about 3 weeks into what would become a 7 month long cross country road trip. When I was looking for something to do between Moriarty, New Mexico and Las Vegas, Nevada; my brother suggested Petrified Forest National Park near Holbrook, Arizona. The park was absolutely amazing. I would love to go back and spend more time there.
Desert grasses angle across the lower left of the photo. Sand spans the next wedge to the distant striated hills on the horizon. A cloudy sky tops the photograph. My waving shadow self-portrait rises from the bottom of the frame.

Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic
Colourful houses and narrow streets in the world heritage site of Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic. The medieval town is situated on a rocky hill, almost surrounded by a bend in the river Vltava and is dominated by a huge castle with an ornately painted tower. Some parts of the town date back to the 13th century.
It really is an attractive place for tourists - steeped in history, wonderful riverside restaurants (and good Czech beer of course). White water rafting is popular on the river, and the weirs have special channels for the canoes and rafts.
Many of the houses fell into disrepair during the communist era, and have only been renovated in the last twenty years or so - they certainly look a picture now!

Washington, D.C,
Each winter, the White House is covered in festive red bows and lights for the Christmas season. The National Christmas Tree is another popular attraction nearby. This picture was taken from the heart of Washington, D.C, in front of the White House. It's a cold walk to see the sights of D.C. at night, but the metro is a comfortable and warm way to travel.
