Mauna Kea, Hawaii
Mauna Kea Observatory, taken on the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. When you're up there, it looks like the landscape of another planet, and it's *cold*!! I was mostly thinking how much I wanted to be at sea level snorkeling instead. Stick out tongue

Ljubljana, Slovenia
A man sitting by the river and reading his book. I wonder what he was reading, was that some kind of thrilling SF or a romantic novel. It took all his attention. After one hour or so, when I went from that place, the image of the man was still unchanged. And it's always somehow transcendental for me to capture an unknown man into the photo... to question about him later when viewing the photo almost connects me with him. Who is he? What he's doing now? And where he is now? And about the man on this photo, who knows, maybe he's still reading his book there by the river in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Pawhuska, OK USA
Tall grass Prairie, Pawhuska, Ok. If you want to get up close & personal with buffalo, this is a great place to go. The buffalo roam freely, and will come up close to your vehicle. It's a good idea to not approach any, though as they could pose a threat.

Bernkastle Church
The first little German town I got to explore was Bernkastle, and it was just the most quaint little town, I instantly fell in love! This shot was taken from the cruise ship I was visiting on before we left the dock to head downstream.

Burano , Italy
These colorful houses are located on the island of Burano, near Venice, Italy. Also known as the Lace Island, this is a place where people believe in color! Here the pink, yellow beige, blue and white houses are reflected in the narrow canal lined with small boats, each as colorful as the houses. I wandered the streets visiting shops specializing in handmade lace and carnival masks. To get here, take a water taxi or a tour boat from Venice. Ours stopped at Murano, the glass island, Burano, and Torcello, with its ancient church containing fantastic mosaics.

This beautiful snowy shot was taken in Cape May NJ, but easily could have been taken anywhere that receives snow. Christchurch, Barbados
A beautiful private beach in Christchurch, Barbados where we were staying in was just breath-taking when dusk came every evening, so a picture had to be taken just to transport the feelings back to a very calm and quiet point in the day!

Kohala, Hawaii
This photo was taken along Puako / Malama Petroglyph Trail in Kohala, Hawaii. You can see hundreds of petroglyphs carved into the rocks here. The trail to the petroglyphs was covered with rough lava rocks and it was hot, so wear good shoes and a hat!

Gettysburg , Virgina , USA
April 2011 was the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. It was the most brutal of all America's wars, with the most casualties. At first, the Confederacy won battle after battle. But the turning point came in July 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg and the capture of Vicksburg.
At Gettysburg, during the second day of fighting, the Confederates attacked the southern end of the Union lines. Gen. Gouverneur K. Warren was sent to scout that position at Little Round Top hill. When he noticed enemy troops marching in the distance, he immediately ordered reinforcements there. They came just in time to defend it.
This statue of Gen. Warren is at Little Round Top, Stop #8 at the National Park. It looks towards the southeast, where the enemy was spotted. This is a very popular stop at Gettysburg, and the view there is spectacular.

Washington DC USA
One of the most famous statues in the US, besides the Statue of Liberty.
Sculpted by Daniel Chester French, this magnificent work is in the Lincoln Memorial at Washington, DC.
A word of advice- do not take a tripod into the Memorial, as they are forbidden. It is very crowded, at all hours.

NYC Skyline
The New York Skyline will never be the same without the twin towers....but they never stayed the same even with the towers. Celebrate the change o the NYC skyline as you can see the cranes working in multiple locations around the city, on this average June Day in 2011.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
This is the top of City Hall, built from 1879 to 1901. It is the second tallest masonry building in the world, with 250 statues adorning the building.
The one at the top is of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania. For many years, City Hall was the tallest building in Philadelphia. But in 1987, the Liberty Place skyscrapers surpassed it. That was the beginning of "The Curse of William Penn"- no Philadelphia teams won championships until 2008, when the Phillies won the World Series.
How was the curse broken? When the Comcast Building, which is now the tallest building in Philadelphia, was built, a miniature statue of William Penn was put at the top floor.

Arlington, VA
Visiting Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, VA is a very moving experience. Whether you are an American Veteran, know a veteran or just want to see what the effects of war can be, this is the place to see. It is sad and peaceful, walking among the thousands of soldier buried here. It is hard to imagine this is only a small fraction of those Men and Women America has lost to war.

Maine, USA
Every year in late spring, we take the kids to Reid State Park near Bath, Maine. We start off walking along the sandy beach, watching the waves roll in but the kids always end up climbing the rocks along the shoreline. The day this photo was taken, was foggy but it did provide the opportunity for some lovely pictures.
