Canal du Midi , France

The Canal du Midi near Narbonne in the south of France, lined with the plane trees that are found nearly everywhere, in autumn colours. Probably these are planted to stop water evaporation, but I like to think they are there for shade for the canal users. This canal is more for leisure craft, and boats can be hired here at Capestang, or many other places - a great way to see France - and the lock operating work is all done for you by lock keepers. Capestang is between Carcasonne and Beziers, both towns full of history and shouldn't be missed. I have happy memories of picking fresh figs from a wild tree on the bank near here.
